Welcome to Spencer Leigh's On The Beat web site! This site is for anyone who has an interest in popular music, and, in particular listeners to my BBC Radio Merseyside programme, which is broadcast every Saturday from 6.00pm to 8.00pm (though the time may change on specific weeks to fit in with early or late kickoffs [Football]) on 95.8 FM. In addition to my radio programme, I have written extensively about popular music for many years. My particular specialisms are the Beatles and Merseybeat. I am a Liverpudlian myself, and broadcast from the city, very close to where the Beatles and others changed the face of popular music.

My radio programmes contain many interviews with a wide variety of people from the world of pop, rock, country,soul....everything in fact. I hope to provide an insight to their music, and give the listener an opportunity to hear the unusual as well as the familiar. The purpose of this web site is to  give information about the shows, the guests and the music. I hope you will contact me by e-mail with your comments, your views and reactions to the programmes.
